What happened a few days ago was sort of a dilemma for me. Things being quite hard these times when it comes to behaving “properly” on the whole weight loss thing, every temptation is a problem I really struggle with simply to resist it. This time, it was a belated birthday cake (my birthday was on the 15th, but I couldn’t celebrate with everyone on the same day, hence the belated dinner). Once all was said and done, I was left with a huge cocoa-and-biscuit cake. Weak as I am, of course, I just couldn’t throw it away.

However, keeping such a thing in the fridge is dangerous, and I knew this as well. What I did was to throw it in the freezer—the big one, not the little thing on top of the fridge—for it to promptly be cryogenized at a whopping -15°C. Not that things are impossible to eat in that state, but it’s sure less pleasant to dive my teeth in frozen cake (even if the cocoa cream itself could be perceived as ice-cream then… but better not even start thinking in such terms!).

So far, it has worked well. I took the cake out again for the week-end, when we had guests. Guests can binge on my cake as much as they want. Evidently, when I am the guest, I don’t like being left with such opportunities; this story will have to be told later, though. Right now, the monstruous thing is still in its frozen state. I’ve managed to stay in control for a change, each time I “needed” to take it out, I cut a part of it only, so that I wouldn’t be left with the lame excuse of “now that it’s unfrozen, I can’t freeze it again, for hygienic purpose” (one of my favorite excuses to eat 1-pound pizzas instead of half of them, among other things).

Sure, it doesn’t work with everything. For now, I’m glad that the plan went accordingly on this particular problem. I did eat some bits of the cake… just not alone, not in situations when it’s easy to stuff myself with it. Resisting is less hard, in such cases.

I feel ridiculous, having to resort to such tricks to stay in control. If it’s what it takes, though…

When I had a leftover Ricotta Pie I was going to do the same thing until my boyfriend thru it out because he said it was too old anyway. I’m not very smart in the kitchen. Still I think the freezer is a really smart idea. I’m usually too lazy to thaw anything anyway…or too impatient.

Ehe, same for me… Usually, if I have the “need” to eat, it must be now… If I have to thaw it and wait, i’m just not interested anymore. It’s at least a good thing!
