At times, it’s hard to avoid social gatherings, both for the social conventions and simply because, well, I like being with these people, after all. It made me realize a little thing, though: all of us, regardless of age, sex and weight, made me feel like we were pigging out rather than eating….

Here’s indeed the name that suits her the best, because it’s really that - a capricious, entitled, selfish brat who’s only interested in getting what she wants and doesn’t think about the consequences. The consequences of her acts unfortunately being me gaining on weight, slowly, insidiously. In a way, I’m pretty sure that we all have our inner brat; she’s just more or less active depending on the people.

The past week-end led me to do something I hadn’t done in quite a while: sitting infront of my computer during two days - or at least, for so long that most of these days were engulfed in it.

Isn’t it weird, how our decisions to really change our lives can sometimes end up in not only a change of tastes, but also a change of attitude regarding things that we would have deeply loathed a few years ago? Well, here’s exactly what happened to me when it comes to exercising. I used to disliked it, now I dislike being unable to do it…

One little thing I’ve learnt, both from myself and from ‘partners in crime’, is that when it comes to weight loss as well as exercising, setting clear and defined goals is a very important thing. Short-term, middle-term, long-term goals - all of these three types are essential to the pursuit of weight loss, and probably to its maintenance too.

Today, for lunch, I did something I shouldn’t have. I was in town to buy a few groceries to prepare tomorrow’s lunch, the one we’ll eat in the car on the road to the other end of the country for our Easter holidays, and all my resolves and right tinking went down the drain when I saw one of the unhealthy foods I used to eat before. Yes, that’s it, I couldn’t resist, and ate this instead of a healthy lunch of vegetables and lean meat, in spite of knowing that I was acting wrong. Oh noes! Is my diet completely screwed up now?

One of my recent ponderings regarding the whole weight loss issue was about what I consider one of the critical steps in it - the actual point of starting up. Motivation, willpower and commitment are always nice words on the paper (or on the blog page); however, as we probably all know it, there’s a whole world between words and action.

A few days ago, I was doing some shopping in a supermarket where I usually don’t go to; this time however, I needed a few items that can’t be found at my regular place of shopping, so I didn’t really have the choice. ‘Lo and behold, no sooner had I walked through the automatic doors that what did greet me? A large aisle full of Easter treats and chocolate bunnies! At this sight, my stomach made a gurgling flip, and painfully reminded me that it was already noon and that I should buy this. Right now. Then eat it on the spot.

Yesterday, I had a nasty reminder that I should remain wary of circumstances - always. No matter when I reach my weight goal, no matter how much time I need to do so, no matter when I live the days when I become a maintainer rather than a dieter - I will always have to remain vigilant. Yes, that’s exactly it: never let your guard down, girl.
